About Karen James

Karen James began her astrological career learning from astrologer and homeopath Dr Yvonne Melita Dyason in Durban in 2004. She began exploring modern psychological astrology in 2005 under Noel Tyl and in 2014 she completed Rod Suskin’s three-year Diploma in Astrological Studies. This enabled her to incorporate traditional astrology into her practice called Sky Guide where she focusses natal, relationship, predictive, horary and electional astrology. Carolyn Egan’s Weather Sage course opened the door to astro-meteorology in 2014. In 2022, Karen completed Jen Hirsch’s 18 lesson Chirology Practitioner Course enabling her to read the divine wisdom and the astrology held in the hands of her clients as well. In 2023 she has studied an introduction to Vedanga Jyotish or Vedic Astrology under tutelage of expert Vedanga Pandita, Nāthan Theo Naicker.

In 2024, Karen established the Sky Guide Academy of Professional Astrology through which she offers a Three Year Integrative Astrology Diploma, which is her unique blend of ancient and modern techniques to best serve clients. This Diploma is fully modularized, enabling students to enrol for one particular module, if they wish. She is currently enrolling students for First, Second and Third Year modules.

Karen also offers a self-paced twelve lesson Sky Guide Weather Astrology Intensive Certificate Course – from Aristotle to Egan – with the First Lesson available for Free on her Youtube Channel. The course includes a video and notes for each lesson, as well as a personalized zoom mentoring sessions which can be scheduled by the student when required.

Prior to finding her joy in astrology, she worked in the business world in various capacities – bookkeeping, cost accounting and database administration. As a hobby, she creates earth and earthling friendly home and personal care products for herself and friends with a view to minimising the plastic packaging burden on our environment.

Born just after a full moon eclipse in July 1963 in the Windy City of Gqebera previously known as Port Elizabeth, Karen feels deeply fortunate to live out her wisdom days on the residential farm Kronendal which lies on the old road from Knysna to George. This fynbos laden land lies at the feet of the Outeniqua Mountains to the north and is bounded by the Karatara river in the west. In the ancient SanKhoi language Karatara means “noisy” and Outeniqua means “man laden with honey” possibly named for the glorious glowing shades that light the mountains at sunrise and sunset.

About Karen's Courses :

Sky Guide Academy of Professional Astrology: Three Year Integrative Astrology Diploma – this is a fully modularized diploma, and students may elect to do stand alone modules if they wish. At the end of each module, the student writes a module exam. On successful completion of all modules, the student is awarded the Diploma. Credit will be given for prior studies by arrangement with Karen.

Third Year: Next Level Brilliance – a variety of modalities that can take your work as an astrologer to a higher level.

Twelve Lesson Advanced Weather Astrology Diploma – from Aristotle to Egan.

Currently a self-study course where notes and access to lessons are provided to the student. One successful submission of an assignment, the next lesson is made available to the student.
