Mars the brave strong warrior among the cosmos

Learning Astrology

Mars is a hot and dry planet and he rules anything that has similar properties, such as desert lands, or spices and curries. Mars is considered to be a challenging planet, as is Saturn. Unlike Saturn, Mars is all about speed, impulsiveness and prompt action. It takes Mars about two years to rotate around the zodiac. In mythology Mars is often seen among the highly revered gods of war. He is the brave soldier that exhibits no fear and can follow the most dangerous and daring orders, without philosophical or emotional drawbacks. In ancient Egyptian culture, Mars was at one time referred to as Horus the Red. There was a specific Egyptian god associated with war and that was Montu.

Other Martian like gods, or war-lord gods, include Ares in ancient Greece, Neit in ancient Ireland and Tyr in ancient northern Scandinavia. In Rome it was Mars who was the acknowledged god of war. Mars has a fiery nature; he is the assertive soldier or athlete that pushes his body to the extreme. It is all about action with Martian energy and this is the epitome of masculine energy. Often when trying to work out someone’s character in a chart, Mars will always indicate a male or very strong woman who is prepared to fight like a warrior. There is no pondering, debating or patience. Mars has impulsive and instinctive intention to execute a course of action and he does what is required to complete it. In any violent combative situation, Martian energy is desirable. There are no thoughts or fears to inhibit a defense strike with Martian energy dominating. It is just about doing what needs to be done to defeat your opponent and win.

Even during strenuous athletic competitions, it is key that the athlete keep focused on the goal. That ability to focus just on the task at hand, (and not get distracted on the impact your shopping has on global pollution or whether your spouse has remembered your anniversary), gets things done swiftly. Mars helps you to push your body to its maximum potential and for you to focus only on what your specific task demands. In this way, you achieve what most can only admire and respect. Mars is logical, not emotional or intellectual. Logical thinking helps a person make sound and sensible decisions, and to implement practical solutions to otherwise murky complex problems.

When Martian energy is not expressed constructively, we develop irritability, inappropriate aggression, impatience, violence, harmful accidents and irritable anger. Even forms of sexual assault and verbal abuse can fall under a negatively expressed Martian energy.

Mars and Saturn work well together because Saturn can help give that Martian energy some patience and perseverance. Saturn helps to keep the impulsiveness of Mars in order or at least slows down that fiery ball of energy. Mars is in fact happy in the Saturn ruled sign of Capricorn. Here Mars can exhibit his actions in a very productive and lasting manner. When Mars is in Cancer (ruled by the Moon) he feels very irritable, as the emotional changes with the Moon leave Mars feeling very unsure about what actions he needs to execute and perform. Mars likes to be given clear instructions and to just get on with the job. The whole emotional side of life causes Mars to feel quite uneasy. Mars is not here to dream, imagine, feel or think, he is here to act. Mars rules over the zodiac signs of Aries and Scorpio. Mars is enduring some hesitancy in Gemini and Virgo (two signs that love to think). Mars is boosted and amped up in the sign of Leo, and he feels much glory as he marches in Aries and Scorpio.

Indeed, Mars has a lot of energy to express. There is nothing worse for Martian energy than being cooped up in a house for the weekend because the weather is dreadful.

The symbol for Mars is a circle with a slanted arrow extending to the upper right. People with a lot of Mars energy are highly assertive and often tend to have a reddish tinge to their skin tone. These types of people should also be weary of or limit alcohol consumption. Alcohol can aggravate one’s tendency to impulsive actions. In addition, Mars dominated people tend to have a muscular body frame, square jaw line, fiery eyes and have loads of energy. They fear less than most people, endure any obstacle and enjoy being dared on. Their mannerisms and language tend to be blunter and to the point. They also tend to walk like they are always on a mission, and in fact they have a fast and purposeful stride.

Imbalanced Mars energy that is expressed in an unhealthy way through physical activity, may lead to accidents. Unexpressed irritable anger often causes subconscious accidents in the kitchen with knives or sharp objects. Mars also gives us a lot of desire and physical stamina sexually. Mars loves with great passion and he is very impatient about it all. Martian types may get involved in crimes of passion. They just do not think, and are too fast to action. Martian dominated people tend to be attracted to Venus ruled people and vice versa. A helpful remedy for problematic Mars energy is taking part in physical activity that you find desirable; such as running, wrestling, karate, dancing or team sports.

Mars gives you a faster metabolism, it helps give you digestive fire. Of course, problematic Mars energy leads to ulcers, irregular bleeding, skin rashes, excessive inflammation and fevers. In such acute situations cooling remedies are needed. Mars rules the prostate gland in men and the nervous system. Without the prostate gland men cannot reproduce, this ensures that the prostate gland is an intimate gland linked with legacy. In bygone times, the security of wealthy families was dependent on others hired to protect them and the legacy of the family required virility.  A strong family required Martian energy. The nervous system is imperative in the ability to have efficient and quick reflex actions. All fighters and soldiers need a well-developed nervous system.

Mars ruled careers include ones requiring bravery, energy and strength. Fire-fighters, police officers, body guards, chefs, surgeons, chemists and builders are among Martian themed professions. In an astrological birth chart various factors are taken into account, including the aspects between the planets and the houses to determine the career of a person. This article is an introduction to begin to understand Mars and what he rules over.

To fire up and prop up your Martian energy, engage in physical activities, such as fast paced walking, hiking, archery, karate, kick-boxing or racing. There are different degrees of physical activity to match any constitution. Physical activity will always enhance metabolism.

Mars has a great deal of motivation and loves to be in action, and especially to be competing. Courage is part of Martian energy and this gives him the ability to do what others would rather avoid. He adores the ability to support those who are weaker, and he will play the heroic fighter any time. Venus and Mars go hand in hand in the department of romance. Yet, Mars is brave and strong, and his first mission is defending and fighting to protect what needs protecting.
