Mercury's Gateway
Mercury is approaching Regulus for Friday’s @zeroVIRGO date. We see Regulus, the ‘heart of the Lion’, has evolved from the bounds of royal Leo into yin-earth Virgo. Mercury, soon to station retrograde, is having a deeper conversation here. Why? Why me?
I am the queen of free learning, starting off in libraries with index cards. These many years of books and hand-drawn charts began the journey and then came the internet and free learning in a different way. When I had money, I studied as I could. I loved skywatchers like Adam Gainsberg, because that was always my thing – I always won the ‘who spots the planet first’ – my own game, I admit, but our skies down south are something truly magical…..in the karoo, the Cedarberg, Anysberg, Drakensberg, Magaliesberg, Pilansberg, Koggelberg, Rooiberg, Sneeuberg, Namibia OMG, at home, outside… ……So I found this guy Gary Caton and he had been writing a lot about Mercury and then published a book in 2017, Hermetica Triptycha, which I purchased and read asap. It got stolen during Mercury retrograde, so I repeated the process.
I had just started practicing my astrology writing online in various formats and naturally wrote all my passions; Mercury’s triple ring being one. Gary Caton found me and went at me for plagiarism which spooked me fullstop. It was just pre-Covid, my laptop and learnings had been stolen more than once and so I stopped reading other astrologers online and focused on living true with my star experiences personally and via relationships with clients, family and friends. I began my practice knowing the rules of the game, but wanting my own voice to be the first port of call. I wanted embodied logos; simple enough for every level of engagement. My inner teacher; ‘if you cannot explain something simply then you don’t understand it fully.’
The story of Mercury as ‘Hermes Thrice Great’ that the incredible Gary Caton Pty Ltd has clarified for us however, is pure gold. What’s better, is that once you know these natural laws, you can have your own conversation with our ‘translator’ planet, who minds ones every thought, word and communication / transaction.

- 21JULY: maximum evening star elongation @27LEO (most visible west in the evening sky)
- 6AUG: Mercury stations retrograde @4VIRGO03’ (Mercury descends into the night)
- 19AUG: Mercury retrograde conjunct Sun @26LEO35’ / ALPHARD@26LEO35’ (Alchemical fusion)
- 29AUG: Mercury stations direct @21LEO26’ (VSP @20LEO28’ AUG23, Mercury ascends into dawn)
- 5SEPT: maximum morning star elongation @26LEO (most visible east in the morning sky)
What we are seeing in the sky currently is that Mercury is emphasizing Regulus although we know that Alphard is nearby in the sky, exact to the degree and minute of Mercury’s Solar infusion at the retrograde conjunction 19AUG, which happens to be fullmoon with Venus-Saturn in partile opposition and line-in-the-sand culmination. We therefore have to include both Alphard and Regulus in the alchemical journey we have just begun with July’s fullmoon 21July.
Alphard is all about overcoming our reptilian brain’s instinct to strike back upon trigger, with the conscious passion of our skin-shedded, tantric heart-selves. Alpha Hydra, Alphard, the heart of the water serpent, squares Algol @25TAU28’, the severed head of Medusa’s feminine passion and rage (hydrated heart vs head of snakes). Alpha Leo, Regulus, ‘Watcher of the North’, grants sphinx-like power and shine-on success, but downfall is total when revenge is taken. With Mercury we always discover something about ourselves or the world that we previously did not know. I take heed of Mercury’s comms most keenly for personal alchemies and quests, but here we see a strong message for all of us at this time of the Olympic Games and Olympian political power-games.
Mercury’s Dates with Royal Regulus for precision planning are 26 July, 13 August and 9 September.
Mercury, Regulus and Alphard are holding our current evening sky as Venus rises higher and brighter. Orion, meanwhile, as god in the form of Osiris and dogstar Sirius, in the form of goddess Isis, hold bright the rising morning sky with Canopus, Alpha Argo, the south pole star. The gods are alive and rising in the east. Leo time is royal in the sense that here we laugh and play in fullest delight with ourselves and the lives we are blessed to live (Sun in rulership in LEO).
When I first started working with fixed stars, I would get incredibly frustrated with the simple descriptions, always wanting more, whereas now I find one fixed star and its relationship to a wandering star (planet) and am transfixed by the deep meaning encoded. Stars are libraries we get to freely visit for full-spectrum collaboration between us earthlings and our sky. History, art and human translators of star messaging allow one to live with these greater stories infusing our lives. We thank all earthlings who speak star.
